Photo sessions for adventurous families who live for the water and the wild

Since I moved to Alaska in 2023, I have dreamt of photographing families in their element - on the water, in the mountains - exploring and playing. I want to create photos for your family that showcases your real life as art. When you schedule a session with me, we’ll work together to craft a session around your family’s passions.

A photographer who’s in it with you

While I’ve only lived in Alaska a few short years, I think it’s accurate to say I dove right into this life. I learned how to drive a boat, which I actually commute on. I’ve figured out how to follow the tides. My daily attire consists of Xtratufs and Guy Cotton. And the rain doesn’t slow me down. My motto is, there is no bad weather, only bad gear. Plus I’m now over a year into mothering in this unique lifestyle. My toddler’s rainboot and rain-bib collection could rival that of any Alaskan fisherman. I will show up to your session in gear that allows me to get down and dirty so I don’t miss any of the epic photographs you didn’t know you wanted!

A session that feels like an adventure

If your family spends a lot of time out on the water, fishing, boating around nearby islands, that’s exactly how I want to photograph you together. These are the memories you’ll look back on and how special to have images that show all the special moments. If you’ve even been worried your kids wouldn’t “behave” or will be bored for a typical photo session, you won’t need to be anymore. Doing an activity that you all enjoy won’t require forcing smiles. Plus I will actually ask you not to look at the camera unless specifically directed. Real moments mean you’ll be present with your family, not awkwardly smiling at your photographer.

The magic of Ketchikan’s water and wilderness

Ketchikan’s landscape is a major part of how we live here. Hiking and beach combing are often weekly, if not daily, activities. Fishing is a central part of life. We live by the tides and the seasons. Wouldn’t photographing your family in those elements be the most accurate portrayal of your life? Seeing the foggy skies above the hilly trees is one of my favorite parts of the moody weather. Sunny days out on the boat are unmatched. Plus you never know when a humpback or orca will make an appearance!

Perfect for kids who love to explore

Many kids don’t like to sit still, so sitting still and forcing a smile for photos might feel like torture. Does your toddler like to splash in the waves, throw a stick for your pup on the beach or do their best to keep up on hikes? I love photographing the little details and the big picture moments of this amazing life. And when you’re wearing everyday clothing and gear in these adventures, you won’t have to stress about your kids fighting uncomfortable clothing. It removes the stress about what to wear. Honestly, I love it when a family shows up in boots and Carhartts. It’s a sure sign you’re ready to have some fun.

Embracing the elements

Life in Southeast Alaska comes with its own kind of beauty. The weather may bring misty rain, cool breezes, or dramatic clouds rolling over the water. But those elements often make photos even more magical. Soft overcast skies create flattering, even light. The rainforest becomes deep and vibrant after rain. The mist over the mountains adds an almost dreamlike feeling to the scenery.

For adventurous families, the weather becomes part of the story rather than something to avoid. A little wind in your hair or the sound of waves behind you only adds to the experience—and the memories.

Capture your family’s wild and wonderful story

If your family feels most at home near the water, in the forest, or exploring somewhere new, an adventure photo session in Ketchikan is a beautiful way to document those memories.

I’m Christina Chacharon Photography, specializing in newborn, maternity, and family photography. I love creating relaxed, fun, outdoor sessions for families who appreciate the beauty of Southeast Alaska. Whether you’re visiting on vacation or you call Ketchikan home, your session will focus on capturing the connection, laughter, and spirit of adventure that make your family unique.

If you’d love photos that reflect your family’s love for the water and the wild, you can reach out through the contact page to start planning your adventure session.

Because the greatest adventures aren’t just about where you go—they’re about who you share them with.
