Frequently asked questions for Seattle newborn photography sessions.

Frequently Asked Questions

+ When do sessions take place?

For outdoor family sessions, the best time of day for lighting is morning or the golden hour just before sunset. When your session is confirmed, we'll determine whether you'll be in the morning or evening. Then the week leading up to the session I will touch base to confirm the final meeting time. Please arrive on time and ready to start at the time we determine. We have a limited amount of time with light and want to make the most of it!

+ What should I wear to the session?

Neutral tones are great. I've included a few examples below of family color palettes that work nicely together. For newborn sessions, I recommend having your baby in a fitted plain white onesie. For parents, dress in whatever you're comfortable in that will allow you to snuggle close with your baby. For some people, this is a nice set of pajamas, for others it's casual button up shirt and jeans or a flowy dress. No neon or graphics! If your toddler is wearing a dress, please put shorts or bloomers under to cover their diaper or underwear. We like to play at sessions and nobody likes a diaper in the middle of a cute family photo :)

+ What should I expect at our newborn session?

I want your newborn session to feel relaxed and comfortable. Those first few days and weeks with a new baby are hard! I want this experience to be as stress free as possible. We'll get photos of your baby, with each parent and your family as a whole. I like to take some detail shots of the baby in just a diaper. I don't use any props but if you have a special blanket or something you'd like to include in some photos, just let me know. If your baby is having a rough day and just wants to be held, that's fine! I'll follow their lead. Please have the room warm enough for your baby to be comfortable in just their diaper or a simple onesie, and yes, often this means the rest of us are sweating a bit! Having a fan on hand can be helpful if you get too hot. I like to shoot in the primary bedroom, living room and nursery, but ultimately it'll be where the best natural light is.

+ My toddler is rambunctious and never sits still. Can you still get good photos of them?

Yes! I love interacting with toddlers and following their lead. I can pick up on when they need a break from photos to play for a few minutes or just need to snuggle close with you. I recommend bringing some snacks, water and a book or toy.

+ When do you schedule newborn sessions?

I recommend newborn sessions take place 1 to 3 weeks after the baby is born. Ideally you would reach out to confirm your session prior to the baby's birth then I ask that you reach out after the birth and we'll lock down the session date. I like to photograph babies when they're fresh and tiny but I also want birthing parents to prioritize their own recovery and that might mean you need a few more weeks before you're ready to schedule your session.

+ Do you provide a client wardrobe?

No, I think a huge piece of creating a personal photography experience for your family is capturing you as your true selves. I want you to feel comfortable and unique.

+ Can my dog be in photos?

YES! I love when families include their furry family member in photos. If your dog is extra rambunctious and you have little ones, it can be helpful to bring a friend to help wrangle the dog. If we're at your home, having someplace to settle the dog is ideal. If your dog is food motivated, have lots of small treats on hand!

+ When will I receive my final images?

The edited, high resolution files will be delivered in an online gallery 3 - 4 weeks after your session. You will have full printing rights and can share the online gallery as you wish. You must download the files locally within 30 days of your session. My all-inclusive packages include a minimum of 50 edited high-resolution files in both color and black & white, a print release and an online gallery to share with family and friends.
