What to expect with an in-home family photography session

An in-home photography session is a great way to capture personal and intimate moments in the comfort of your own home. Here are some things you can expect during an in-home photography session:

Whether you’re planning for a newborn session or a family session at home, read through my FAQ page for some great pre-session info.

My sessions are a mix of candid and posed shots. For newborn sessions, I’ll take photos of the baby on their own, with the parent(s) and if there are older siblings. We’ll also get some shots of the whole family together. Feel free to ready books or play games. Occasionally I’ll ask you to look directly at the camera but mostly I just want to capture your family interacting as they are. All I need is a good window and bit of clear space around that natural light - whether it’s in your living room, bedroom or baby’s nursery. We can do the entire session in that one space if needed or move throughout your home.

Don’t stress! Things don't always go according to plan. Children may be fussy, pets may not cooperate, and unexpected events may happen. It’s all part of real life and we’ll still get great photos. As the adult, try to remain calm as your energy sets the mood for the whole family. And don’t be embarrassed if your kid is acting up in front of a stranger, trust me, I’ve seen it all.

In-home photography sessions are between 45 and 60 minutes.

After the session, I will go through the photos and select the best ones to edit. The editing process can take anywhere from a few days to a few weeks, depending on my current gallery workload. Once the photos are edited, the photographer will usually deliver them to you in a digital format in an online gallery. Feel free to share the gallery with family and friends!

Overall, an in-home photography session is a fun and unique way to capture special moments in your own environment. I hope this gives you a little more insight in what to expect.
